Match Report
Dollar Academy 1st XV vs  The Edinburgh Academy
On: Saturday, 15 Sep 2018
Venue: at Home

Dollar were very keen to put right the mistakes from last week against Merchiston and started the game at a tremendous pace.

Edinburgh Academy were pinned in their own half for long periods but Dollar were their own worst enemies, continually wasting scoring opportunities by trying to give 50/50 passes.

Eventually the pressure told, however, with Finn McIlwraith steadying nerves with a fine break before setting Michael Gray away to score. McIlwraith made no mistake with the conversion to put Dollar into a well deserved 7-0 lead.

With the majority of the play now all with Dollar, it looked only a matter of time before the home side would add to the scoreline but each attacking play was blown by a drop of the ball or a wayward pass which gave the visitors hope. Dollar were left paying for their errors when the Edinburgh side surprised everyone with a try of their own against the run of play. They failed with the extras but brought the half time score to a narrow 7-5 in Dollars favour.

The visitors enjoyed a much better second half in terms of possession and it wasn’t long before they were rewarded with a penalty in front of the Dollar posts. They made no mistake with the kick and took the lead 8-7.

Dollar responded with deadly accuracy when Michael Gray cut a great line and powered his way to the line. McIlwraith added the conversion giving the lead back to Dollar 14-8.

Edinburgh would not lie down and wave after wave of attack finally paid dividends and the game looked dead and buried as the visitors scored a late converted try making it 15-8.

However, it was Dollar’s turn to turn on the style and with the last play of the game, McIlwraith scurried over the line, converting his own well taken try to bring the final score to 21-15.

Whilst Dollar marginally deserved to win this game, it was close. Too many forced passes and missed opportunities made this game a lot closer than it needed to be.
