Match Report
Dollar Academy 1st XV vs  Loretto School
On: Saturday, 01 Sep 2018
Venue: Away

This fixture was arranged as a triangular with half games against Loretto and an Argentinian side, The Florida School.

First to play was Loretto and the Argentinian side and Loretto soon proved far too strong for their physically smaller opposition. Loretto’s no nonsense approach proved lucrative and they had amassed a huge score in the 35 minutes of play.

Next up was Dollar against Loretto and Dollar knew that their defence had to be at it’s best if they were to stand any chance against the Loretto danger men. This they did in quite some style and quickly started to dominate all areas of play. It wasn’t long before new boy, Cameron Purdham went over for his first try in the Dollar colours which Finn McIlwraith duly converted.

Michael Gray soon added to the try he got last week with Finn McIlwraith making no mistake with the conversion to make it 14-0.

By now it was all Dollar and only through our own mistakes did Loretto touch the ball. Within 20 minutes captain Danny Robins and Ross McKnight had a try a piece with Finn McIlwraith converting both giving a commanding 28-3 lead.

The game was cut short at this point. The Argentinians felt that Dollar would be too strong and to comply with player welfare regulations, Loretto could only now play two halves of 20 mins against Dollar in total.

Dollar emptied their entire bench and with seven new players on the pitch, the game threatened to lose some shape but this definitely was not the case proving that this is a very strong squad indeed.

Within the 20 minute period Dollar added a further 17 points with another brace of tries for winger Gabe Smith and a well-deserved try for openside Jamie Cruickshank

The final score of 45-3 was very good considering it was reached in just 2 x 20 minute halves and with all 22 players of the squad enjoying at least one half.
